The Chase Freedom card bonus categories for Q2 2014 are Restaurants and Lowes. The bonus runs from April 1, 2014 through June 30, 2014. All purchases charged to your Chase Freedom card at restaurants or Lowes home improvement stores will earn 5% cash back.
How To Maximize The Chase Freedom Q2 2014 Bonus
As always Chase imposes a cap of $1,500 in purchases in bonus categories. That means you can only earn up to $75 in cash back, or 7,500 Ultimate Rewards points if you have a Chase Sapphire card during the bonus period. That said, sometimes it can be a challenge maxing out the spend in the bonus categories depending on what they are.
In this case spending $1,500 at restaurants should not be an issue for most. Food and grocery costs are often the second highest consumption category next to shelter (rent or mortgage), so depending on how often you eat out vs. go grocery shopping, you should be able to get close to the limit. That said, if you have the Citi Forward card, which awards you 5 Thank You points for restaurant purchases, this option may not appeal to you as much, and you would likely be better off maxing out the Chase Freedom bonus at Lowe’s. One of the best ways to max out the bonus at Lowe’s is to buy gift cards. Dan at Dan’s Deals did a great job assembling this list of gift cards available at Lowe’s. Of particular interest to me is Amazon.com being on that list. Being able to get an additional 5% cash back on Amazon purchases is always a good thing. Other options that may prove useful include Shell and BP where you can effectively get 5% cash back on gas purchases yet again (remember that gas was one of the Chase Freedom bonus categories last quarter).
