Starwood Platinum Challenge

starwood platinum challenge

An easy way to earn SPG Platinum status is by completing the Starwood Platinum Challenge. This program was introduced in 2011 and allows non-Platinum members the ability to earn Starwood Platinum Status by staying 18 nights within a 3-month period.

Starwood Platinum Challenge Requirements:

  • Stay 18 paid eligible nights (award stays and Cash + Points do not count) within three (3) consecutive months
  • You must register for a consecutive three (3) month period. For example January 1, 2014 – March 31, 2014.
  • You may register after you have stayed, for up to 2 of the 3 months. For instance let’s say you had already stayed 10 nights and then decide you want to do the challenge, you can retroactively apply the 10 nights to the challenge requirement as long as they were in the last 60 days. Hence in the example above you can call on February 27th and request that your Platinum Challenge period start retroactively on January 1, 2014.
  • You can re-register for the Starwood Platinum Challenge again the next month if you wish.
  • If you meet the 18 night requirement, you will get Platinum status for the rest of the calendar year (although there is a 2 month grace period where you will still retain your Platinum status through the end of February as a regular SPG Platinum member would)
  • If you do not meet the full 25 stays or 50 nights regular Starwood Platinum requirement, then you will be soft-landed to Gold status the following year.

Remember that you cannot have had Starwood Platinum status at anytime within the last 5 years to participate in the SPG Platinum Challenge.

What Are The Benefits of Starwood Platinum Elite Status?

Bottom Line

The SPG Platinum Challenge can be an easy way to earn Starwood Platinum Status after just 18 nights in three months. Remember that the nights must be paid nights and awards do not count. Unfortunately you cannot have been Platinum within the last 5 years to qualify.

  1. Did you know that there is a short cut to Starwood Gold status with just one stay in Asia-Pacific? It comes in handy for everyone who will loose status in March. We outlined a couple of weeks ago (just search for Starwood Gold on mightytravels dot com)
